People and culture
At RFLPS, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating an environment where individuals feel supported, valued, and empowered to grow – personally and professionally. In 2024, we enhanced both our employee benefits and learning and development offerings to reflect this commitment

Supporting employee growth and development
We increased our employer pension contribution to 6% of pensionable pay, helping employees build stronger financial security for the future. In addition, we introduced a group life assurance policy providing cover of four times annual salary, offering valuable protection for employees and their families. Through our partnership with Unum, all employees also now have access to a dedicated wellbeing and health app, giving them tools and resources to support both their physical and mental health.

“Committed to building a workplace where everyone can thrive.”
Learning and development
We continued to invest in developing our people through a range of structured learning opportunities – from on-demand digital learning to in-house leadership programmes and industry-recognised training.
Our partnership with FranklinCovey, a global leader in leadership and personal effectiveness training, provides nominated employees with access to the FranklinCovey Impact Learning Platform—an on-demand resource for self-led professional and personal development. Alongside this, we delivered several in-house programmes to support key talent groups, including The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People for individual contributors and The Six Critical Practices of Leading a Team for first-time managers.
To promote continuous learning, we host monthly Knowledge Café lunch-and-learn sessions and publish the Growth Mindset Bulletin, which shares insights, programme updates, and learning opportunities across RFLPS. Employees also have access to external training through the Knowledge Academy, enabling them to pursue accredited courses aligned with their development goals. In addition, our corporate partnership with the Association of Project Managers (APM) supports the growth of our project professionals through access to industry-recognised tools and resources.

Building futures through apprenticeships
At RFLPS, we are committed to developing our teams through meaningful apprenticeship opportunities that support both personal growth and service improvement across Royal Free London.
Our property managers have completed their MSc in Real Estate Management at the University of the Built Environment, covering key areas such as lease management, negotiations, and rent collection. They are now working towards chartered status with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), further enhancing their professional credentials and strengthening RFL’s property expertise.
Facilities team leaders are undertaking Level 3 Facilities Operations apprenticeships, while eleven domestic staff have begun Level 2 Cleaning Services apprenticeships. Thirteen colleagues from Decontamination are enrolled in Healthcare Science – Decontamination Science apprenticeships, and over fifty domestics have joined IT skills training, with more cohorts planned. We’ve also introduced career development pathways for domestics, porters, and catering teams, supporting progression in English, maths, and digital skills.

A more equitable and inclusive RFLPS
At RFLPS, equity, inclusion, and belonging are essential to creating a thriving organisation. As an NHS-owned consultancy, we’re committed to ensuring every voice is heard, every contribution valued, and every individual has the opportunity to flourish.
Our DEI&B (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging) programme is a people-led, leadership-supported initiative shaping a more inclusive culture across RFLPS. Our vision is to create a workplace where everyone can be their authentic self, feels a sense of belonging, and succeeds together — where every team member is valued, has fair opportunities to grow, is empowered to speak up, and feels connected to our mission and each other.
Powered by our people, the DEI&B programme is shaped by employees across RFLPS and championed by senior leaders. Together, they’re building an inclusive culture and ensuring our consultancy to the NHS and public sector reflects the diversity, empathy, and collaboration that define great public service.

“At RFLPS, we are inspired to be a successful organisation where we can develop leaders at every level and purposefully foster an inclusive, high-trust and high-performing culture. We are committed to supporting our people with personal and professional development and career progression. One of our goals is to help everyone develop leadership skills and professional knowledge to fulfil their potential and ensure a rewarding career at RFLPS.”
Kelly Liu, head of people, RFLPS
